Team 1503 - Spartonics
Spartonics, 1503 is a F.I.R.S.T. extra curricular robotics team at Westlane
Secondary School in Niagara Falls, Ontario. We started our team in the
2005 season and have competed in Regional Competitions and the World
Champions every year following.
F.I.R.S.T. stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology”
and is an organization that was created in 1989 to help bring the engineering
and science aspect of learning into secondary schools around the world. Teams
are made up of highschool students and experienced engineering mentors that are
challenged to design, build, program and promote their robot each year.
At a competition teams are aligned with two other teams from different
schools to work together to perform a task. The task is given to all
teams on the first
Saturday in January and every team is given the exact same amount of time and
restrictions to build their robot. F.I.R.S.T. is a very cooperative program
that bases its games on team work and positive energy. Teams work together
on and
off the field with a playful rivalry to help each other to a victory.
This
year the challenge is to play soccer with your robot with a twist of
bumps on the
field and an added bonus for hanging off a tower at the end of the game. For
details you can view the animation to demonstrate the game (here!)
